8 Things to Do in South Houston in Winter

8 Things to Do in South Houston in Winter

When it comes to activities in winter, Houston understands the need for folks to get out and enjoy the lower temps. While Pearland is quiet and serene, the Bayou City offers all manner of delightful activities that are not too far away from the Pearland RV Resort. Slip into that cozy sweater and hit up any of these wonderful Houston attractions.

Saturday Jazz Nights

Jazz always pairs nicely with artisanal spirits, so thank goodness the 8th Wonder Distillery has a Saturday night music series filled with eclectic lineups of Houston’s finest classical jazz in the tasting room.

Stargaze at George Observatory

Everything is “big and bright” when you head to the George Observatory. A satellite facility in the Houston Museum of Natural Science that has recently emerged from a two-year facelift. On Saturday nights, the deck is open for star viewing, with real-time feeds from the monster telescopes. Advance tickets are only 10 bucks, and you can even bring your own telescopes and binoculars.

Take Your Picnic to the Stage

The open-air Miller Outdoor Theatre has reopened from a year-long hiatus and is putting on some lively productions. Live jazz, ballet, and musical theater are all on tap this year. Show up early with a blanket, a bottle of wine, a plate of cheese, or whatever soothes your palette and have yourself a little picnic and the lawn. Or snag a coveted seat by reserving a ticket.

Flex Your Golf Game at Topgolf Webster

Smack your ball at colored targets, dominate a life-sized Connect Four, and drink a decent amount of beer at South Houston’s Topgolf, just a few miles southeast of Pearland. Here you can enjoy climate-controlled hitting bays, and HDTV sports at their bar and restaurant. This is high-tech sporting at its finest.

Foodies can Delight in Seasonal Produce at Farmers Markets

If it’s local eats you crave, Urban Harvest Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 am til noon. The Houston Farmers Market and urban farm Finca Tres Robles are also great places to collect fresh produce straight from the fields. Hope Farms Market boasts everything from seasonal squash to rainbow beets to fresh egg pasta.

Go Old-School at a Drive-In Movie Theater

One silver lining of the pandemic has been a resurgence of drive-in theaters. Check out Moonstruck theater, with great views of the city skyline, or enjoy an al fresco experience at the Rooftop Cinema Club for more of an out-of-the-car evening.

Spend Quality Time with the Pooch

Our four-legged friends have given us much-needed emotional support over the past couple of years, so why not show them some love and let them run free at any one of Houston’s top-rated dog parks. Johnny Steel Dog Park, Ervan Chew Dog Park, and EaDog Park (near 8th Wonder Brewery) are just some of the great places to take them, all less than a ½ hours’ drive from Pearland.

Escape Rooms are Still a Thing

Become an amateur detective at Escape Hunt, where daredevils can give Scooby and the gang a run for their money by working out who stole a timeless artifact from a Sam Houston exhibit, or wander through a whimsical wonderland to perhaps secure tarts for the Queen of Hearts. Anything can (and usually does) happen when you spend a rousing afternoon at an escape room.
