Camping Hacks to Use on Your Next RV Trip

Planning a camping trip can be an enjoyable and relaxing way to experience nature. From making it easier to navigate around your campground to saving space on future camping excursions, here are a few hacks sure to assist in making this experience enjoyable!

  • Camping may mean mosquitoes, but that doesn’t have to mean an unpleasant experience! Try using sage leaves as an effective natural mosquito repellent instead.
  • Use Frisbees as plates. Many people line these with those flimsy paper plates for a very sturdy and no-spill meal. Also makes for easy-peasy clean-up!
  • Use a vegetable peeler to shave soap for single uses. Cut enough for you and your crew every day of your trip, then put them into a zip-lock bag. This is great for taking them to the campground showers.
  • An inexpensive garden flag stand doubles as an economical paper towel holder, perfect for RV showers that require multiple towels to get clean.
  • Have a clean pair of socks only for sleeping. This will keep your feet warm in the RV or tent, while also keeping dirt out.
  • Make a lantern out of a milk jug and headlamp. This frugal hack can be used at campsites or during power outages in RVs.
  • Store grilling spices in Tic Tac containers.
  • Turn regular cups into travel containers using Press’n Seal plastic for kids or adults traveling the road.
  • Glue sandpaper inside the top of your matchbox for easy match lighting. You can find this material at most hardware stores, or even Dollar Tree or Dollar General!
  • An empty coffee creamer container can also help save space in your RV refrigerator and prevent cracked eggs when cooking at the campgrounds.
  • Hanging solar lights around your campsite is another easy way to enhance illumination at night. Consider placing some near tent entrances, kitchens, wood piles and other key locations such as entranceways.
  • Burn sage in your campfire. Studies have revealed that mosquitos hate the smell of sage; adding some into your campfire will help repel these pesky insects!
  • Line your backpack with a garbage bag to keep the contents dry. Perfect for those wet days.
  • Use gallon jugs of water as ice packs in your cooler.
  • Corn chips and Doritos make for great kindling for your campfire if you are short on small sticks.
  • Crack eggs ahead of time and store them in a water bottle for an easy breakfast with no messy egg shells.
  • Dry your shoes overnight by removing the insoles and stuffing your dirty clothes in them.
  • Tie your travel mug lid and container together. Nothing is worse than losing your precious lid out in the woods.
  • Keep toilet paper dry by taking an empty plastic coffee container, cut a slit on the side large enough to pull the TP through.
  • Transform a dollar-store pill container into a mini medicine cabinet for on-the-go common ailments.
  • Turn an over-the-door shoe organizer into an outdoor kitchen that can be hung above the ground. Great for keeping kitchen utensils and various food prep supplies.
