The Uniqueness of the Pearland Area

When you’re on vacation you enjoy seeing the usual, such as the beach or a museum. After all, that’s what people do on a lot of vacations. When you’re visiting Pearland RV Park you have a unique opportunity. Sure, you can go to the beach and museums, there are a lot of great ones in the area, but why not experience something that is very rare in the United States, a Hindu Temple.

Eastern Visitors

Hinduism is the dominant religion in India and is the oldest extant religion in the world. Their temples are often filled with vibrant colors. There are Hindus in America, although they only make up .5% of the population. Hindu immigration to the United States peaked in the 1970s, with the first Hindu temple being built in Pittsburg in 1977.

Pearland’s Temple

The Sri Meenakshi Devasthanam is located in Pearland even, so it isn’t a long day trip. It was build in 1982, although the planning phases started in 1977 and is modeled on the famous (more colorful) temple dedicated to Meenakshi in Madurai, India.

They are open in the mornings and evenings through the week and all day on the weekends. When visiting they do request that you wear clothing that covers the shoulders and knees.

They are often booked for weddings, pooja, and other ceremonies. They also offer workshops and lectures. If you’re just interested in some basic information, you’ll find their visitor’s facility to be helpful.
